Year built: 1990s
Plan: New Yankee Workshop
New Yankee Workshop project with both plans and the video to help with the project build. I love this project and as you can see built some three separate times over the years.
The plan included the shapes required for the arms, back legs and back seat slat profiles. So, make it easy to cut on the band saw. New Yankee used red wood but, I used cedar as it is more prevalent.
Built two. Project turned out well. Easier than some prior as it is outdoor furniture and the tolerances are not so tight and the joinery was pretty simple. Only part to be extra careful about are the long back legs and the three bolt holes to join them to the front legs. If you don't get that right, the chair won't sit flat on the ground. Attention to detail required here.
Working with Cedar is great. A soft wood that cuts easily, is not too expensive, and smells great when you cut it.
I stained it...and re-stained it many times over the years. Although, they eventually got sun damaged pretty bad with the cedar cracking and getting very rough (especially the arms). Eventually, found their way to the fire pit and time to make new ones.
